CELEBRATING OCEANIA

MAY 2005

As part of our whole school commitment -  to developing |nternational Awareness - this year we studied the cultures and countries of Oceania.

The whole week was spent researching and studying the many varied and diverse culture of the area.

This involved all areas of the curriculum - both core and foundation subjects - a thoroughly enjoyable and ENRICHING WEEK - was had by all - staff and pupils - with a wide range of opportunity to enhance learning and be creative!

These are some of the areas we studied:-

 Mrs. Neilson put up a display to inform us about her visit to Australia and she told us about her visit in Assembly.

 

Mr. John Wilson again came into school and worked with us studying ethnic the art of the area and working with us to reproduce our own interpretations -  these are some of our works of art!

DREAMTIME

We listened to stories from the Dreamtime and Mr. Wilson worked with us to design and paint our own Dreamtime Pictures - these are some of our designs:-

 

 

                  

 

Year 5 studied the masks of Papua New Guinea and designed their own masks :-

 

 

Year 3 and Y3 designed their own Australian Hats!!!!

 

 

These are only a few of the things we did - it was a thoroughly enjoyable week!!!

We have a permanent display of our art work in the hall - please come in a see for your selves!

We can't wait until next May when we once again study the many and diverse cultures of AFRICA!
