About Us: Home School Liason
HOME TO SCHOOL
Mrs S Huteson is our Home to School Liaison Officer.
Active communication between parents and the school is encouraged. Regular newsletters keep parents informed of school life and any changes in rules or organisation. Parents are invited to visit whenever the need arises. It would, however, be most helpful if parents could telephone the school office to make an appointment unless the matter is urgent.
Mrs Huteson is available as the first point of contact for parents, from 9.00 to 3.20 pm.
ABSENCES
Please telephone the office on 01964 612427 the first day of absence and send a note explaining the absence when he/she returns. Without this information from you, under current legislation, your child will be regarded as an unauthorized absentee, and will be marked accordingly on his report.
5 days of unauthorized absence in a 13-week period, will invoke a fixed penalty fine of 50 pounds (LEA).
Attendance Reward Scheme
In an effort to encourage higher levels of attendance, Withernsea Junior School runs an attendance reward scheme for the children. We receive sponsorship from Tesco, South Holderness Round Table, Hull City FC who contribute free tickets across the year, Game King who contribute family tickets for bowling on a regular basis, Hull Ice Arena and other school suppliers.
The scheme runs half termly, with credits being issued to those children who have 100% attendance for each half term period. In addition to this, more credits will be awarded for meeting their termly target and for achieving 100% for a full term. In addition to this the school are providing a days free healthy tuck to those children who have achieved the 100% for the term. In July special prizes will be awarded for 100% attendance for the year. Other in term prizes may be awarded subject to availability.
A supply of credit rewards are stocked in school for the children to redeem against the credits they have been awarded. They can choose to spend their credits immediately or save them for a higher value prize, encouraging the children to save as well as providing a great incentive to be at school.
The scheme was launched with an Attendance week! The week
culminated in a non-uniform day on Friday 18th January 2008. All those children who had 100% attendance for that week were entered into a free prize draw with an adult mountain bike being awarded to the winner. The bike was generously donated by Tesco, Withernsea to whom the school were extremely grateful for all their support.
If any readers know of further support the school might attract to help sustain this scheme, please contact Nina Siddle, Business Manager, at the school.
