The teaching of music is included in Topic work and includes work on rythm, listening, instrumental and singing, within an appropriate context.
Yr 4 study within the Wider Opportunities Scheme. Mr Cunningham (Brass) and Mr Wood (Woodwind) lead these sessions and each child has the opportunity to learn trombone, trumpet or clarinet. They also cover all other areas in music. Summer 2009 culminated in a concert in the Valley Gardens alongside the East Riding Intermediate wind band.
Yr 3 have taken part in the 'Singing's Cool' project and Yr 5 have taken part in Quest which incorporated a visit to an opera. Various venues in the town were visited by the school choir this year and were greatly appreciated. A choir sang at Tesco and at the Christmas Remembrance Star ceremony. They also performed at various retirement homes as well as in school for invited visitors. A lower school choir joined with Upper school actors in the Christmas production of Scrooged.
We have five peripatetic music teachers, who visit weekly to give small groups lessons in wind instruments, brass instruments, violins and cello. Children are given regular opportunities to audition for suitability to play these instruments. There is a termly charge but this is good value when compared to the price of private lessons.
