The agreed syllabus for R.E. is being taught throughout the school. Different approaches to the subject are being introduced to encourage the children to reflect on the different religious practices they see, including art, drama, photography, food tasting along with written tasks rather than just learning the facts.
Pupils have enjoyed visits from local church leaders as part of the agreed syllabus, along with visits to local religious buildings. A group of Y6 pupils worked on a nativity play which they performed at the upper school carol service. The lower school pupils took part in the christingle service.
Our children are working mainly in line with national expectations and are developing an understanding of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. The resources continue to be added to. Our pupils need to have artefacts to aid their understanding of religions other than Christianity because of the limited access they have to other religious cultures in their daily life. The children are encouraged to view the positive aspects of all religious practices and to be able to reflect on their own reactions towards them.
Collective Acts of Worship
We continue to have termly visits from local church leaders in our Collective Acts of Worship. We also welcome other speakers when they are available. The children also take part in Class Assemblies, when they are encouraged to put forward their own thoughts and skills. Celebration Assemblies at the end of the week are a popular weekly event when any achievements by the children are recognised.
