Governors: Introduction
GOVERNING BODY
Since the introduction of Local Management of Schools, the governing body has a much greater say in the running of the school, the appointment of staff and the financial running of the school. It is vitally important, therefore that the governors take seriously this greatly increased responsibility and workload and give the considerable amount of time necessary, if this is to work effectively. Fortunately we have a governing body, which works hard, in conjunction with the staff of the school to the benefit of the pupils at the school.
The full governing body meets once a term, unless an extraordinary meeting for a specific purpose is convened. During the course of the year there are frequent meetings of the various committees and working parties.
GOVERNORS ANNUAL REPORT TO PARENTS
In 2004/5, the School was involved in The Primary Leadership Strategy Programme, which focused on writing and the use of the Interactive Whiteboards in the classrooms. Each classroom now has a whiteboard and which has greatly enhanced teaching and learning for all pupils reflecting the government's initiative for "Excellence and Enjoyment. Much work has been done to develop writing in the school and two members of staff have attended the "Can Write, Won't Write" initiative.
The Governors recognise the hours teaching and non-teaching staff put in after school and during lunch breaks, to run various clubs and sporting activities.
The school has recently been presented with the Healthy School Award. Congratulations to the staff.
I would like to thank everyone including office staff, caretaker, lunchtime supervisors and cleaners for their help in making Withernsea Junior School the bright, happy well run school that it is. We also appreciate the work done by the many volunteers who help with clerical work and school outings etc.
Finally I would like to thank you the parents for your continued support of your children and of Withernsea Junior School.
